I genuinely thought that he'd already snuffed it to be honest. Second time this week that's happened. I thought Josie Lawrence had died, then I saw her in the paper. However.

I'm not a computer geek, as witnessed by the nonsense with this week's Skype call for the podcast, but his influence on culture can't be overstated. It's just a shame that he'll forever be remembered for the C5 rather than his many other innovations.

I remember I was in sixth form when his calculator had just been launched at a fraction of the cost of others, but it had the quirky "reverse Polish notation", it took getting use to but reduced log tables to the bin.
