I tried to get into this before but found the first episode a bit run of the mill, nothing really new or exciting. Does it get better?

I`d stick with it Filthy, it does get a lot better as it progresses

I'd never heard of it, but I asked Chatgpt to recommend some series based on what I'd liked before and this was the recommendation. I've almost finished it now, with about 5 episodes to go of final season (4 seasons in total).

While it can be a tad frustrating at times, I have really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.

(Serious question   ) Is it based on the film?

I watched the first two series, and to be honest I didn't think they were very good, mostly down to Jack Lowden. I just don't think he's a very good actor. Likewise his nemesis with the slick-backed hair. He's dreadful. Gary Oldman is always good value, but his performance was cliche ridden. As telly goes it was alright, but it wasn't one of those things that made me want to immediately watch the next episode. Having said that, I'll probably watch the rest of it at some point.

Yeah I believe it is.

Yeah I believe it is.

I liked that film; bit of a slow burn but very good.

Loki

Before we start, it’s not Wandavision, but it comes pretty close.

Watched the whole two series back to back over the last week, and I can finally say that someone has made a grownup ‘superhero’, of a sort. Tom Hiddleston was absolutely brilliant as the titular hero of this total mindfuck of a Marvel spinoff. It makes you wonder how they pitched this…

“Right… Loki, Thor’s brother, and all ‘round bad guy gets arrested by some sort of 1950’s secret time agency. We’re thinking a Mad Men vibe. Orange and brown colour scheme, sharp suits. That sort of thing. It’ll look brilliant. It really will. Once he’s there, old Loki will discover that not only his, but everyone who’s ever existed, their reality is just a concept. Nothing they’ve ever done matters. But over the course of the series he’ll slowly transform into a good guy, and save life the universe and everything by making the ultimate sacrifice. How’s that sound?”

And that’s it. It’s really good, and you don’t have to be the sort of person who likes Marvel in order to get it. There’s no callbacks to the franchise, you can enjoy it as a stand alone piece. However. There’s one scene where someone looks in their desk, and there’s some infinity stones in there “We use theme as paperweights”. If you’ve watched The Avengers, this was an incredibly poignant throwaway. Really clever.

Its my time of year for TV. Everything I want to watch comes out now.

Brassic
The Penguin
The Boys (which has been out for a month or so, but if I ain't seen it, its new to me)
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
From

Plus watching House which is crazy as to why I slept on that for so long. It is bloody brilliant TV and if you haven't see it get yourself an Amazon sub and watch it all. It is so so good.

It's a good job I wait till the whole season is out so I can binge watch over the course of the 10 months there is bugger all on that I like.

Not much I'm looking forward to the rest of 2024..... Silo (AppleTV+) is back in November for its second season, then Severance in January. Might check out the new version of The Day of The Jackal that Sky have been promoting, looks promising.

Have to say that I'm really enjoying The Penguin. Only two episodes in, but not what I was expecting. And no matter how many times you look at him, I still can't see Colin Farrell in there. An astonishing performance.
