I lost count how many times Maguire lost possession for us. Misplaced passes. Undirected headers. Put us in trouble throughout the first half in particular.
Lawrence was fantastic most the time but went to sleep for their goal. Offord moved across to stop a free player coming into the box. The pass split our defence and found the scorer but Lawrence was oblivious to the movement behind him on that occasion.
What did we think of that ref? I’ve not been that angry at a ref in literally years. The worst I’ve seen in yonks and a major reason why the game was so fractious and bitty. No clue what is or is not a foul and should go back to non-league (or ref school) - whichever - for a few more seasons.
I’m not sure how impressed I was with Lindsey’s tactics. We were man-marked continuously and McGill either played short or long with the same player positions - neither worked. If we go long, push two or four more players up to the half way line to give us a ball over the top that might work. Eventually they will stop man marking our defenders.
It was his debut in the EFL. TBH I am not so sure he had a bad game. Just nerves I would have thought. Certainly not as bad as some seasoned pro refs who have been in the game for years.
