Years ago, well over 30 I'd imagine, in fact probably closer to 40, some of the guys I worked beside hired Kenilworth Road out for a game. I remember how excited they were. This was obviously before mobile phones and social media, but someone had a camera, and photographic evidence was duly produced. They all looked as if they were having a great time.
Perhaps it's the same thrill for the ladies team. They're obviously not good enough for the league they're in, and it can't be much fun getting battered every week, so playing in a state of the art facility might just be what they need to feel better about themselves as a team.
A very very long time ago, when I could play a tiny bit I was lucky enough to play at a few professional grounds. I played on the plastic pitch at Kenilworth Road which was a hideous experience. I played at the City Ground, Meadow Lane, The Dell and Goldstone ground.
The experience was fantastic in the main but two things stand out in my memory. Playing in a large stadium thats empty is an odd experience, quite eery and also a little intimidating, particularly when you are more familiar playing on open pitches with perhaps a small single stand.
The other thing was that the pitches were relatively quite soft in comparison. To begin with I really liked it but it took an awful lot of energy out of me which was a bit of a surprise and I recall a lot of players being absolutely knackered after an hour.
I would imagine it could be similar for the womens team and of course their opposition. Its more likely the players are a division or two above where they should be and they would struggle in that league wherever they played
